I started Friday night with a request for me at the City Limits, a pub just outside the...you guessed it! city limits.
Joe (not his real name) got in and said "hows she goin Mike!" I've known Joe (not his real name) for more than 25 years now, we've lost contact and re-established contact several times over the quarter century and we always seem to enjoy each others sense of humor.
I told him things were going good and we were looking forward to the warm weather, and BBQing and we chatted like old friends while I took him home.
The fare was $9.00, he pulls out a $20.00 bill and asks me to come back in an hour. I told him he should call the office when he's ready because it's hard to say where i'd be in an hour. He agreed and got out and stumbled up his steps.
I did a couple of small runs, each tipping me generously and then got the call to pick up Joe (not his real name). Took Joe (not his real name) across the river to the city club, a $10.00 fare and he pulls out a $20.00 bill and says "I need $3.00 back" and then looks at me and asks if he should call the office when he's ready. I wink at him and say "man you catch on fast!" He smiles and says "mama didn't raise no fool, I have edumacation!"
The night stayed fairly steady and I noticed that alot of passengers were giving bigger tips than usual. After an hour or so I got the call to get Joe (not his real name) at his home. As I pulled into his driveway his wife Sue( her real name) came running out to the cab said hi and got settled into her seat. Joe(not his real name) came out, got in and stated with a smile that "we have got to stop meeting like this, people will start to talk"
They wanted to go to the city limits, so off we went...a $10.00, Joe (not his real name) pulls another $20.00 bill out and says we'll call for ya when we're ready...OK?"
"sure Joe(not his real name) no problem dude...I'll come and get ya when you're ready"
Did some more runs with 90% of them leaving me a good tip, then went and got Joe(not his real name) and Sue(her real name) and took them home. Another $10.00 fare with a $5.00 tip.
It would be nice if all our passengers were like this!

Would be nice wouldn't it?
But I'm on a fixed income and tipping isn't an option for me.
I was a good tipper when I was working though.
